We have been selling, installing and supporting Small Business Server from Microsoft since year 2000. This has to be the best possible value on the market today. We use it here at Dataserv. I truly depend on this product every day. A Swiss army knife server, our SBS 2003 box has been humming for 4 years without fail. I'll admit, we've had our share of connection issues and power outages, but day in and day out SBS has been servering us quietly.
We manage the box with about an hour’s worth of time each month. This "ONE" box hosts our email, SharePoint site, remote access, and faxing, besides being our domain controller, dhcp server, file and print server. All Small Business Server are Mac and Linux compatible.
It is important to configure this box correctly so it will give you years of trouble free service. Minimum 4GB of ECC Memory for SBS 2003, 8GB if you are starting out with SBS2008. A quad core processor and a good disk subsystem using a minimum of enterprise class SATA drives. External backup with off-site redundancy and a very good UPS round out a robust configuration.
